Famous TEFL Teachers

J.K Rowling
J.K Rowling is probably the richest TEFL teachers. Before writing the Harry Potter series, which would make her into a household name, J.K Rowling had a short stint as a TEFL teacher. J.K Rowling taught English inPorto, Portugal, in 1992 before moving to Edinburgh in 1993 to write the first Potter book.

Bob Geldof

Teaching English in Spain can lead on to forming a world famous rock band and creating massive aid concerts to help starving children in Africa. The small town of Murcia in Spain is where it all began.

James Joyce

One of the most influential writers of the 20th century, he started off as a TEFL teacher in Italy. The author of Ulysses worked at a Berlitz Language school in Trieste, Italy for over 10 years.

Wilfred Owen

He is largely recognised as one of the greatest poets of the First World War. Before the war, he spent time as a private English tutor in Bordeaux, France. Sadly, he was killed in action and his now famous war poetry was mostly released after his death in 1918.

Nick Hornby

Nick Hornby is a novelist, essayist, lyricist, screenwriter and former EFL teacher. He is best known for the novels High FidelityAbout a Boy, and for the football memoir Fever Pitch. Before this, however, he taught English as a Foreign Language to students in London.
